Food Technology at our school, led by Jennifer Lockett, is a dynamic subject within the New Zealand Curriculum that challenges students to look beyond the recipe and understand the science and creativity of food. Under Jennifer’s guidance, students engage in the Technological Practice strand by identifying needs and developing high-quality, "fit-for-purpose" food products. The program focuses on Technological Knowledge, where students explore the functional properties of ingredients, nutritional requirements, and food safety standards. Jennifer fosters a kitchen environment that balances culinary craft with critical thinking, encouraging students to trial, test, and iterate their designs to solve real-world problems. By exploring sustainability and cultural food practices, students develop a holistic understanding of the food industry, preparing them for future pathways in hospitality, food science, or health.
