The Devon Intermediate School Uniform

The approved school uniform is to be worn whilst at school and on visits away from school.

Sports uniforms will be owned and issued by the school. At other times, when children are representing the school, uniforms may be issued. For some activities, students may be exempt from wearing the school uniform, e.g. school trips.

All our uniform items can be purchased from Campus Clothing, 94 Gill Street in New Plymouth. See price list below. 

Summer Uniform 
• Navy drill shorts. Additional options for girls - blue and yellow tartan wool polyester skirt or culottes.
• Royal blue polo knit shirt with school logo and lemon pinstripe on collar and sleeve (short-sleeved).
• Royal blue V-neck sweatshirt with school logo.
• Black flat-soled sandals with a heel strap or plain black shoes only.
• Devon uniform socks, navy blue or black socks – above the ankle or knee length.
• School navy or black, wide-brimmed or bucket hats, alternately a plain black or navy cap.

Winter Uniform 
Uniform as for summer, with an additional choice of official Devon long pants.
The official Devon jacket is optional, and can be worn to and from school, in the playground, but not in class.
Alternative rain jackets can be worn to and from school but should be a neutral colour – blue or black.

Physical Education Uniform

Sunhats
It is compulsory for all children during Term 1 and Term 4 to wear a navy-blue or black bucket sunhat, alternately a plain black or navy cap when outside.

Jewellery
For safety reasons, it is inappropriate for jewellery to be worn to school. The only exceptions are:
• A wristwatch (without access to the internet)
• Small stud earrings - no more than one small stud in each earlobe. Sleepers are not to be worn, nor any other visible body piercing.
• A necklace of cultural or religious significance. This must be worn inside the uniform during practical technology lessons.

Other Notes
• If there are any facial piercings, they must be covered by a neutral band aid.
• No make-up, nail polish or false eyelashes of any type.
• Hair is expected to be neat and tidy - no extreme styles and natural colour only allowed.
• If hair is shoulder length or longer, it must be clipped and/or tied back. Only plain royal blue, white or black hair ties are to be worn. We do not allow scrunchies, colourful hair clips, or headbands. 
• We recommend dark navy thermal, short-sleeve tops to be worn under polo shirts for extra warmth. It is not acceptable to wear long-sleeve tops or T-shirts. These items will have to be removed.
• School sandals OR school shoes and socks may be worn year-round.
• All articles of clothing and footwear should be clearly marked with the owner’s name.
• A limited second-hand uniform service is available. The office can assist you with this. There are often second-hand items available at charity shops around town or through various Facebook groups.
