Welcome to Room 20 for 2020!
Kia ora Room 20 students and whanau!
Welcome back to term 3! I hope you have all had a lovely break and spent lots of quality time together. I really enjoyed term 2 and have enjoyed getting to know you all, and I’m looking forward to another positive term. We have a lot of exciting things happening this term, inside and outside the classroom.
Inside the classroom
Inside the classroom for writing we are focusing on both informational writing and descriptive writing. We are also doing some creative writing tasks using VR (Virtual Reality) Headsets exploring things such as “The trenches” from WW1 and 2, Space and the Lunar trip trip to the moon with Neil Armstrong. For maths we are focusing on Statistics and Number for the majority of the term. For reading we are doing a lot of interest based reading, so this means the students are reading about things they are genuinely interested in, with some guidance from myself of course. For Art we are focusing on a range of Art techniques but the main two are painting and drawing, using a skill called sectioning. Plus much more!
Outside the classroom
Outside the classroom for PE we are focusing on Winter team sports and running for Cross Country. We are also well underway with production rehearsals for our awesome Lion King Production, led by the amazing Miss Pene. Our arts groups are also well underway with Kapa Haka and Pasifika performance groups practicing each week. We also have lots of great initiatives and ideas for our up and coming Mana days.
Week 3 Tuesday 4th of August – Highlands Sports Exchange
Week 7 – Lion King Production (dates tbc)
Week 10 – Taranaki X Cross Country 23rd of September
Just a friendly reminder and update for parents, room 20 students have 3 task for homework each night, this includes their spelling words, basic facts practice and 20 minutes of reading each night. Interesting fact: Someone who reads 20 minutes each day vs someone who doesn’t, will know over 40,000 more words by the end of the year. Hence why it’s so important! Also keep having those conversations about the schools Mana Values at home with your child, these really help reinforce the values when we discuss them at school.

Looking forward to term 3!
