Food Technology

Food technology at Devon Intermediate is a combination of practical work and theory.  In today’s society, where people are busier than ever, it is important that young people can make good food choices.  The food technology programme aims to give students a variety of skills and knowledge so that they are able to make healthy snacks at home as an alternative to the less nutritious snack foods marketed at young people.

Furthermore, the food industry contributes millions of dollars to the New Zealand economy each year.  Students will learn about the role of food technologists in developing, manufacturing and marketing new foods.  This may inspire future careers in an industry that has many exciting opportunities.

We ask that students bring to food technology each week a hand towel, tea towel, plastic container and plastic bag for taking gear home in.
