Guidance Counsellor – Whaea Margery

Kia Ora

My name is Margery Fern, the students refer to me as Whaea Margery. I was born and bred in Central Hawkes Bay and was raised in a large family, on a dairy farm. As a young adult I moved to the Waikato where I initially trained at Waikato University in Geography and History. My interest in supporting others began in my early twenties as a Youthline Counsellor and my training continued in this area as my husband and I, raised our four children. I trained in Counselling through the Central Institute of Technology as well as the University of Waikato. When our whanau moved to Raglan, in 1998, I embarked on a teaching career.

Last year our family made the big move to the Taranaki. We are currently based in Opunake.

I have an eclectic style of counselling including client centred counselling, a narrative approach to counselling, Interactive Drawing Therapy and Sand Play. I am excited to be a part of Devon Intermediate School and the very supportive staff and look forward to meeting and working with students and their whanau.
