Room Five:

Science & Technology Academy

Hi, Term 3 is another busy and important term.  Our Science and Technology topic this term is “The Science of Nutrition”. This unit links in with Life Education which is arriving at the end of the term.  In this unit we’ll be looking at digestion, taste, why nutrition is important and how food helps or damages our bodies from a scientific perspective.  We’ll be conducting a technology project, where students will be studying food technology.   Later in the term, we’ll be studying puberty.  More information on this will come home soon.

 Set SAIL:

This term the SAIL focus is on Involvement.  Students have so many opportunities at Devon.  Some activities and events they get involved with now may become lifetime passions.

 Goal Sheets:

Your child will be bringing home a new Goal Sheet.  They have portfolios which they’ll be sharing with you at the Student Learning     Conference. Homework is targeted at these goals.

 Science & Technology Fair:

We were so proud of our students at the Devon Science and Technology Fair.  Thanks so much for supporting us by coming along to this event.

 Camp:

Thanks for supporting the fundraising events for camp.  Detailed information about camp will be coming home soon, and it’s important that you read this carefully with your child. 

 We’re running a milo and muffin fundraiser from Week 4.  We’ll need some great cooks to help make muffins to sell at school.  More information will be coming home next week. 

Student Learning Conferences

 Another round of Student Learning Conferences are scheduled for Week 6.  This is an excellent opportunity to meet with me and your child and discuss how they’re doing.  We track students’ progress carefully throughout the year, and students work towards goals and reflect on them on a weekly basis.  At the Learning Conferences we’d love to share their successes and talk about the next steps.  We’re also going to be discussing National Standards, so it’s important to come along to these this term.

Camp Meeting
The Science and Technology Academy will be having a camp meeting on Monday 31st May at 6:30pm in Room 4. We'll be discussing the details of this year's camp as well as discussing fundraising ideas. Please come along.
