Welcome to the Devon Intermediate whanau, I am sure you will enjoy your two years at our wonderful school.
I have been on staff at Devon Intermediate School for three years and what impresses me the most is the drive, the commitment and the passion of the teaching staff to provide varied and rich learning opportunities for our ākonga.
There are numerous opportunities to shine at Devon Intermediate and the best advice I could give your child would be to try as many new experiences, in and out of the classroom, as possible.
An area of interest for me is curriculum development. Over the last three years we have had intensive professional development in teaching reading and writing. Through this pd we have also improved and refined our teaching programmes and assessment procedures. We continue to develop a culturally responsive programme and currently we, the staff, are building our own capacity to teach New Zealand History by learning about the impact of colonisation on Ngāti Te Whiti hapu and the Ngāmotu rohe. Staff eagerly look for opportunities to provide a localised curriculum that is relevant and rich in experience.
I enjoy keeping up with trends in education so feed my passion for learning with professional readings and courses. This year, one of my interests is learning Te Reo Maori at night classes and noho marae. I am enjoying experiencing Maori pedagogies as a learner and considering how they might be applied to the classroom.
